Training is an essential element and legal requirement for all safety management systems. Whether you require the convenience of public courses or the flexibility of in-company training, we can provide you with a suitable solution. Public courses are delivered throughout the year at various locations and dates while in-company courses can be delivered on site at times suitable for your company. NST trainers are all fully accredited in the courses they deliver with years of experience in delivering enjoyable as well as educational programmes. The list below are our regular courses but our skilled trainers can arranged tailored tuition to suit your specific needs. Under the Safety, Health and Welfare Act 2005 it is required that any information given by the employer must be understood by the employee, to help you comply with this legislation we offer our training through Polish and also provide document translation into the Polish language. Other languages can also be offered on request.

Manual Handling & Lifting Courses

Manual Handling (1/2 Day - 10 places max.)

Each year hundreds of civil claims are taken against employers which are related to back injury due to lifting incorrectly. Proper Manual Handling training is a legal requirement under the Health Safety and Welfare at Work Act 2005 & the General Applications 1993.
Training helps to prevent up to 34% of accidents. This training programme is aimed at providing all persons at work with proper techniques when lifting, carrying, loading, pushing and supporting. It provides employees with good work practices such as proper lift Manual Handling Techniques.
Each and every one of us is at risk of injury every day when we lift, from the concrete block to the ream of photocopy paper!!!!!

Client Lifting (1/2 Day - 8 places max.)

This course is specifically aimed at persons who are associated with lifting and working with persons in care such as patients in hospitals and residents in nursing homes, people in day care and home care services.
This course is required under the General Applications 1993. This is a one day training programme, which will cater for up to 8 persons.


First Aid & Emergency Courses

Occupational First Aid (3 Days - 12 places max.)

In under 3 minutes, a person is unconscious if not breathing. After 7 minutes, long term brain damage is incurred due to insufficient oxygen. Every place of work must have a qualified Occupational First Aid person on the staff.
A professional team of instructors provide top class training to first aid personnel over a period of three days. Subjects covered include; CPR, fractures, wounds, bleeding; dealing with burns and emergencies within the work place.
We have a very “hands on” approach certification is recognised by the National Ambulance Training Board. Courses may be held at times that are suitable for the work place.

First Aid Refresher (1 Day - 10 places max)

This is a refresher course for those already holding an Occupational First Aid certificate. It covers the same topics as the Ocupational First Aid course. This course acts as a reminder of the information already taught in the OFA training, as well as a means to inform First Aiders of any new information or changes in procedures and guidelines since they initially carried out the Occupational First Aid course.

Emergency Response Training (1 Day)

This is a 1 day course that provides Basic First Aid training to persons who may be involved in the assisting a qualified first aid persons in a real life emergency situation. Subjects taught are CPR, wounds, minor fractures plus much more.

Fire Safety Course

Fire Training & Safety Awareness (1/2 Day - 10 places max.)

This is a half day training programme which familiarize all persons in the work place with the importance of fire prevention, emergency evacuation and emergency response procedures, such as the safe use of fire fighting equipment. This is a ‘hands on’ programme which involves the use of fire fighting equipment, which is provided by NST. 70% of businesses which suffer fire damage, fail to continue as a result. Fire prevention and first action with fire is now a legal requirement. Training programmes enhance group work practices and generally prove to be beneficial in reducing massive insurance costs.


Site Safety Courses

Confined Space Awareness (1 Day)

A confined space is tank, boilker, boiler house, duct, deep excavation, sewer, chamber where persons may be working. This is a 1 day training programme, which is aimed at providing the skills and knowledge to ensure 100% safety prior to and within condined spaces.. All training is provided in accordance with the 1999 Code of Practice for confined space. Site Safety Training specialist equipment such as breathing apparatus , harness, tripod, gas monitors for this training programme is in full compliance with the Code of Practice 1999.

Safe Pass (1 Day - 20 places max.)

Safe Pass is a requirement under Schedule 9 of the 2001 Constructino Regulations. All persons associated with the construction industry and all construction related activities including engineering and maintenance are required to have Safe Pass training. NST Co Ltd offer in-house and public courses which are accredited by FAS – the National Training Authority and CIF (Construction Industry Federation). This is an 8 hour training programme which covers 13 sections of safety from construction plant and machinery, working at height, excavations, etc. Safe Pass has been a major success in heightening the awareness of safety.

Working At Heights (1/2 Day - 12 places max.)

NST offers a specialist training programme for persons working at height. Specialist equipment such as harness and access and rescue lines are demonstrated to all persons involved in the training programme. Over 50% of people involved in construction site accidents die from falls – in many cases expensive equipment such as harnesses, retractable reels etc are purchased by companies but one vital ingredient that is missing in most cases is the lack of training for those using same. Training programme includes prevention of falls, restraint equipment, edge protection, fall arrest equipment, working from scaffolding, mobile towers – this is a half day training programme, which is undertaken within your work place if required.

Chemical Safety (1/2 day - 12)

Thousands of chemicals are in circulation today – in many cases, people take these chemicals for granted and are not aware of the consequence of even a minor chemical spill, from employees to the public, to the risk of being prosecuted by the authorities, such as the EPA. NST provide the highly acclaimed Safety Awareness Chemical Handling Training Programme. This is a 4 to 8 hour training course in the safe use of handling, using and storing chemicals in the work place. It also outlines emergency procedures required when dealing with chemical spills and containment.

Office Safety (VDU) (1/2 day)

There is a legal requirement for Visual Display Screen Equipment to be assessed as part the employers duties. The employer must have the assessment in writing and within the parameters set down for Display Screen Equipment under the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act (General Application) Regulations 1993.
NST will provide the assistance of a competent person to facilitate the client on completing the above requirement and in training those using the VDU’s in the safest way to do so while educating them on the occupational health & safety dangers associated with VDU’s.


Plant & Equipment Courses

Telescopic Handler CSCS (1 Day)

Forklift (2 or 3 Days - 3 places max.)

Side Load Truck (4 Days - 3 places max.)

NST provides a full range of fork lift training services for all makes and types of forklift from counterbalance, side load, reach truck, telescopic. This training programme does not alone cater for the overall safety and handling of the machine but also increases and improves the integrity and performance of the operative. This is mainly a ‘hands on’ and practical course. Certifications awarded on successfully passing theory and practical exam are under the directorship of a recognized registration body. Forklift training is provided for all sectors from the beginner to the semi-experienced to the fully experienced operative.

Boom Lift (MEWP) (1/2 Day - 6 places max.)

Scissor Lift (MEWP) (1/2 Day - 6 places max.)

Mast Climbing Platform (1/2 Day)

The MEWP (Mobile Elevated Work Platform) course is specifically aimed at providing training and certification for operatives of all makes and types of MEWP including mast climbing platforms HEK. In this course, operatives learn the proper safe operation and good work practices of MEWP’s. Training includes theory session, followed by practical session within the machines Training also includes inspection, safety checks on machines. This course caters for to 6 persons and is 1/2 day in duration (separate course required for each machine type).

Rubber Tyre Digger CSCS (1 Day)

Excavator CSCS (1 Day)

Dumper 4-40 Ton CSCS (1 Day)

Tarmac Spreader (1 Day)

All machinery training is provided by fully qualified and accredited trainers with a ‘hands on’ practical approach.

Abrasive Wheels including safe use of grinders (1/2 Day - 10 places max.)

This is a 4 hour training programme and is required for all persons who are mounting and setting up cutting discs, grinding wheels, sanding wheels, polishing wheels, con saws etc. Course is required by law under the 1982 Abrasive Wheels Act.
Abrasive Wheels instructors are qualified mechanical technicians with “hands on” experience and are registered through recognised training body ROSPA.
Participants are taught on proper mounting, selection and setting of abrasive wheels. Also safe use of hand tools such as grinders, con saws, bench grinders is taught through practical sessions. Abrasive wheels are responsible for many accidents in the work place. Proper training and information, which is in the course we offer is essential for the prevention of accidents with abrasive wheels.


Farm Safety Course

Farm Safety Awareness (1 Day)

This is a 1 Day course given to increase safety awareness and knowledge for farm safety. Farm accidents are a serious problem in Ireland with fatalities and serious injuries that could be avoided through some basic training. NST can visit your farm and put a programme together to suit your activities or organise a public course covering the basics common to all farming activities.
